the rooms were kinda
shabby, but if you want a pristine room then go to paris. the
best part about this place is the bar. 24 hours a day, and very
late at night the thai transsexual hookers come in to knock down
a beer or two (and sing karaoke!). trust me, there is no other
place on earth like this place. and, it is very very cheap!
just returned from
amsterdam having stayed at the torenzicht.we always stay in the
red light district but were unable to get our usual hotel this
time round so had to take a shot in the dark by pre-booking on
the net. the people at torenzicht were extremely quick and efficient
with emails regarding the booking. on arrival there was no record
of our booking but being armed with a print-off of the confirmation
all was sorted, i suggest you do the same.the room, no 26, second
floor was clean and tidy if a little small but at these prices
and this location you don't expect the hilton.expect no frills
i.e tv, fridge, wardrobe, shaving points. all in all, i think torenzicht
was more than adequate for what we were after and would really
be worth three and a half stars in the review.
we have just come
back - had a superb time! Staff very friendly especially the guy
doing breakfast. we were a bit apprehensive about the suicidal
stairs, but somehow they seemed easier after visiting the coffee
- shops. rooms were clean and and we had the showers and loos
to ourselves until a rowdy lot from essex arrived and livened
the place up a bit. the all night bar was good. all in all we
would recommend hotel torenzicht as it is very centrally located
to everything that is going on.
second to none in
location, provided the reason of you're holiday is vice. it was
for us, so having this hotel in the heart of the red light district
served as an ideal headquarters. rooms were tight but comfortable
and the only complaints were the suicide stairs all too common
in holland. the communal showers and toilets were clean throughout
our stay and our internet reservation plea was answered nearly
immediatly even though it was height of summer (2000). we never
got our free glass of beer though.
An excellent base
for staying in Amsterdam, although to those who lack discipline
the all night bar can prove a major handicap. 4 of us stayed for
5 days and whilst the rooms arent en-suite there are 3 toilets
and 2 showers on the 3rd floor between about 7 rooms, all kept
spotlessly clean by the way. Perhaps the only downside was the
lack of a snib lock on the inside of the bedroom door, meaning
that if 1 person was having a kip,and the other wanted to go on
the town, then the door either had to be left open or the person
locked in the room. The barstaff/owners on first impressions seemed
a little strict, but after realising we were just a bunch of harmless
idiots were absolutely sound, probably putting up with a lot more
drunken exploits than many others would have, also there is an
excellent choice of music constantly playing behind the bar.
